Boards, Commissions, and Committees
What are the Boards, Commissions, and Committees?
Boards, Commissions, and Committees help to guide the development and use of land within the County's jurisdiction.
They provide venues where any interested party's can have their say and issues can be aired.
Why are they Important?
Many Boards and Commissions, such as the Regional Boards of Architectural Review and the Montecito Planning commission, are integral parts
of the legal process for obtaining certain planning permits. They ensure that certain ordinances and policies are adhered to by the applicant,
that all issues raised by interested parties are addressed, and that the final approved project represents a balance of sometimes competing
interests. Committees, such as the Historic Landmarks Advisory Committee and the Fish and Game Committee, provide a way for the County and the
public to address specific issues. For example, preserving our historical buildings and lands or addressing wildlife issues.
